Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of issues does the Parent Center AI Tool provide assistance with?

The Parent Center AI Tool specifically provides guidance on issues related to child online safety. Although the National Center on Sexual Exploitation covers all issues related to sexual exploitation, the Parent Center is specifically focused on protecting children online. This is the only focus of our tool.

The Parent Center AI Tool has been specially curated for parents and caregivers. It derives its responses from a database consisting only of resources from NCOSE and our trusted partner organizations, all of whom have consented to have their content surface in this tool. This prevents the tool from answering questions that are outside its scope of expertise. It has also been thoroughly tested by parents, caregivers, teachers, subject matter experts, and cybersecurity experts.

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911. The Parent Center AI tool is not a replacement for any type of doctor, law enforcement agent, crisis intervention expert, or any other subject matter expert. If you try to go to the Parent Center AI Tool in the event of a life-threatening emergency (i.e. your child is experiencing suicidal thoughts), it will give you resources to crisis intervention organizations that have experts who can help.

The tool can, however, provide assistance in non-emergencies. For example, if your child has been exposed to pornography or exploited online, the tool can provide advice for how to discuss it with them and give references to additional resources. It is always best to consult law enforcement, therapists, and law enforcement following an incident if a crime has been committed.
